Shadow Studio is provided under the Shelterscape brand (Shelterscape, we, us). These terms apply to the Shadow Studio software. Contact us at contact@shelterscape.com.au.
What the tool does
Shadow Studio helps you model buildings and explore idealised sunlight and shadows from the information you enter. Using it does not engage Shelterscape to assess your site or provide planning, architectural, engineering, surveying, legal or financial advice. Any separate consultancy service requires its own agreed scope and fees.
A shadow diagram is not a planning approval or a finding of compliance. The software does not establish whether a development is permissible, feasible, financially viable or likely to receive a permit. We do not guarantee approval, a particular council decision or acceptance of a drawing by any authority.
Checking your project
You are responsible for selecting suitable source material and checking your inputs and results before relying on them. In particular, verify the scale, boundary, coordinates, true north, date, local time and daylight saving, building and fence heights, roof geometry, terrain and neighbouring context. An address search result is a location suggestion, not confirmation of the orientation of an imported plan.
Simplified massing and incomplete site information can produce results that differ from actual conditions. Check the applicable assessment criteria and submission requirements independently. Obtain appropriate professional advice where a decision requires it; do not rely solely on this tool for property purchases, construction or a planning submission.
Free preview and your work
The free preview lets you import a base plan, draw and edit massing, and explore shadows in the current browser session. Separate aerial overlays, project saving and recovery, and drawing or data exports are not included. An internet connection is required. Online processing and file handling are explained in the privacy notice.
The free preview does not autosave. Refreshing or closing the page, or a browser interruption, can lose the work in that session. We do not keep a server copy that we can restore. Keep your original source documents separately.
Paid workspace and subscriptions
The paid workspace includes saving and reopening projects, aerial overlays, scaled PDF sheets, vector diagrams and measured-area data exports. The subscription price is A$20 per month, billed monthly. There is no per-export fee. Usage is subject to the storage, project and service limits described below. Review the amount and billing period shown in checkout before paying.
Your subscription renews monthly until you cancel. Use Manage subscription on your account page to cancel renewal; access continues until the end of the paid billing period. An active subscription is required to use the editing workspace and paid features. Software charges do not include council fees or a planning consultant's services unless expressly stated.
Cloud saving requires an explicit Enable saving action in the workspace. Check that a save has completed before closing the tab. Only successful saved versions can be reopened; changes still pending, rejected because of a conflict, or interrupted by a failed connection may not be recoverable. Keep original source documents separately.
The current allowance is 20 saved projects, 500 MiB of file storage per account, 30 MiB per file and 100 files per project. One previous successful editable revision is retained. Older uploaded source-file versions count towards storage until the project is deleted. After paid access expires, you can still list and delete saved projects from your account. Opening the editing workspace and changing saved projects require an active subscription.
Your files and permitted use
You retain your rights in the documents and designs you bring to the tool. You must have permission to use any material belonging to someone else, including plans and imagery. Importing it does not transfer copyright to Shelterscape. Our handling of information is explained in the Privacy notice.
Use the service lawfully. Do not interfere with other users, attack the service or access data or features without authorisation. The application and branding remain the property of their respective owners; third-party components retain their applicable licences.
Responsibility and consumer rights
Council and other authority decisions are outside our control. To the extent permitted by law, we do not accept responsibility for those decisions or for inaccuracies in third-party information that we neither supplied nor verified. This does not remove responsibility for our own conduct where the law imposes it.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded, including applicable Australian Consumer Law protections. Where a statutory guarantee applies, the remedies required by law remain available. Contact us if the service does not perform as described; a disclaimer about planning outcomes does not prevent a complaint about the software itself.
Availability, changes and contact
The service may be interrupted by maintenance, faults, lost connectivity or request-rate limits. A calculation can be delayed or rejected; a previously displayed result may no longer match subsequent edits. Use the calculation status shown by the editor before reviewing a result. We may restrict access where reasonably necessary to address a security threat or material misuse, and will explain the reason where practical. We will give reasonable notice of material service or terms changes where practical; changes will not retrospectively remove accrued rights or entitlements already purchased.
You may stop using the preview at any time. These terms are governed by Victorian law, subject to any mandatory protections that apply where you live. They do not require you to give up a right to approach a regulator or a court available to you under applicable law.
